Hi everyone Instats is excited to offer a 5-day seminar, Movement Ecology Using R <https://instats.org/seminar/movement-ecology-using-r>, running livestreaming May 12th–16th, led by professors Luca Börger from the Department of Biosciences, Swansea University and Garrett Street from the Forest and Wildlife Research Center, Mississippi State University. Understanding how organisms—from microorganisms to migratory megafauna—navigate their environments is central to modern ecology and evolution, and this intensive workshop equips you with the cutting-edge tools needed to analyze such movement data in R and RStudio. Across five days of expert instruction, you’ll delve into core principles of Movement Ecology, learn to work with ringing/CMR, VHF, and GPS datasets, and master statistical and mathematical modeling techniques that unite ecology, physics, and mathematics within a single analytical framework. Through hands-on coding sessions, you’ll gain practical experience in data wrangling, visualization, and advanced modeling, while also developing strategies for tackling common challenges, selecting appropriate tracking technologies, and translating results into actionable insights for conservation and management. By the end of the workshop, you will be prepared to take your movement analyses from raw data to publication-ready outputs and communicate your findings effectively to diverse audiences.
