We invite you to join the 5‑day hybrid course “*Introduction to linear mixed-effects models and GLMM with R*”, held at Murdoch University, Perth and live online via Zoom on 9–13 February 2026, 09:00–16:00 (AWST).
Taught by Dr. Elena Ieno and Dr. Alain Zuur (Highland Statistics Ltd) – authors of 12 books and providers of over 250 courses – this course will give you the tools and confidence to analyse complex ecological and environmental data. Flyer: https://www.highstat.com/Courses/Flyers/Flyer2026_02_Murdoch_GLMM.pdf *What the course covers * * Data exploration and a step‑by‑step revision of multiple linear regression in R * Linear mixed-effects models for nested/clustered data (random intercepts and slopes) * GLMMs for: o Count data (Poisson, negative binomial, generalised Poisson) o Binary and proportional data (Bernoulli, binomial, beta) o Continuous data with and without zeros (Gaussian, gamma, Tweedie) * Model selection, diagnostics (including DHARMa), interpretation, and visualisation * (Time allowing) basic power analysis for choosing numbers of clusters and observations Around 15 hands-on R exercises use real fisheries, aquatic and ecological datasets, with all code and data provided. * * *Format, materials and support* * Hybrid delivery: attend in person at Murdoch University or join live via Zoom * Fee: £500, including all course materials. With 50% reduction for participants from developing countries. * Extras: o 1‑hour one‑to‑one video chat with the instructors after the course to discuss your own data. o Access to a course website for 12 months, with on‑demand videos for most exercises and all theory presentations. *Who should attend *Researchers, practitioners and students in ecology, fisheries, environmental science and related fields with a working knowledge of R, multiple linear regression, and basic GLMs. *Registration *For full details and to register, please visit: https://www.highstat.com/index.php/joine-an-onsite-course For questions, contact [email protected]. We hope you can join us in February 2026.
