A update to the sp package, version 0.9-61 has been released on CRAN and
will propagate to mirrors soon.
Versions 0.9-56 through 0.9-60 can be installed on R < 2.9.1 but fail when
functions calling anyDuplicated() (spChFIDs() or any function calling
Polygons()) are used. The problem only affects users of R < 2.9.1 and sp
between 0.9-56 and 0.9-60. Users of R < 2.9.1 should revert to 0.9-52, or
upgrade R if this problem affects you.
The new version now correctly depends on versions of R >= 2.9.1 that
provide anyDuplicated().
