Spam. Bots hijack gmail accounts and post spam to Google Groups. Same thing happens on Yahoo Groups, and probably other large forum systems. Doesn't happen to us often, and we haven't gotten carpet-bombed like some groups do. Sounds like Steve may actually know something about the particular scam. That they spam to advertise it is enough for me.
