I deleted my facebook page after the firestorm of criticism about privacy settings. They didn't back down on progressively revealing more of subscriber's personal information. They only made it easier to see the few controls that users have. I had been uncomfortable using it for over a year before I saw this:

I'm not so blind as to think there is such thing as privacy any more, but I don't like that they changed the deal after I signed up and were likely to continue changing it. I told all my distant cousins that I'll see them on the next social medium that doesn't deceive me like that.

Sure. And many more who are very choosy about what they give to Facebook.

It's insanely rude and stupid to mount a community-involvement campaign using only Facebook. For that reason alone, AFAIAC, they don't deserve the endorsement of my attention.

Look at it this way: If the campaign required you to eat at McDonalds in order to participate, would you think that was OK? This is really not much different.
