No, I'm saying that "there is no non-controversial way to do X" is
not an argument for not doing X.
Cool. Well, sure. It is also not an argument for doing X.
We are probably expecting the CHAR/STRING standards to be
useful for much more than they rightfully should be useful for.
The alternative is looking for the Y and Z to have instead of X,
so to speak. That's what SRFI and R7 should be for, I think.
