This is an opportunity in disguise.

All of the candidates who want to "reunite the community" now have a
case-study on the crux of the "R6RS issue" right before their eyes:

>From another perspective, this is a core issue, about which people
have no qualms about "wasting time on" it.

Maybe you are right and it is useless banter; but maybe there is an
opportunity for future steering committee members to break this down
and look at what kind of process or approach needs to be realized to
make clearly obvious decision's made in the standard both clear and
obvious to the community.
