I had 2 (and still have one...family is very good at availing themselves of cool stuff :b)
I had one about 40 ft from my router. It used to show about 50-55% signal strength, but never once dropped out. That being said, it was an early test build, so things are even likely better than that in production builds. I am one of the lucky beta testers who managed to wrangle a unit with a battery. As much as I thought my life improved when I acquired my first SB (a Classic), the Radio running wireless and on a battery is simply beyond comment.
