When in the Now Playing screen turn the knob a bit and you will see the artwork shrink to within the banner and status bar. Turn it a bit more and it will go back to full bleed.
That change came in with the 7.4.1 release. In certain rare circumstances spinning the knob will cause the audio to skip ahead/scan.
