The 7.5 behavior is the one intended by the developers and is as follows. When the screen brightness is greater than about 50% or so, the screen will dim slightly after 30 seconds to help extend the life of the backlight. It will go back to full brightness when a button is pressed, etc. It will not autodim when it is already at a modest level. There was a thread on this in the beta forum a couple of months ago.
