I don't use a Radio, but I haven't had to re-enter any setting on my Touch for over a year despite updating the firmware every couple of days (I'm running a beta version of Squeezebox Server). Same goes for my Boom and my SB3s. There is clearly something wrong if you are getting repeated requests to update the firmware and it is loosing settings when you do upgrade.
As others have suggested, contact support. It could be as simple as you having a faulty unit.
