The Product most suitable for this is a Touch or SB3 (Classic) or the
reciever.
These have the soudquality expected for hifi especially the Touch it is
really good.

The 3,5 jack is mainly for headphones on the radio and it's probably
not so hifi . I'm listening right now on par with a bad mp3 player not
over fantastic

You should have the volume at 100% when using the output to a hifi.
That is expected .

However don't confuse loudness with sound quality needing to have the
volume on different places does not tell anything really, but most
sources are to loud if never ever goes over half of your volume control
you now they are.
