it is patching the firmware source so you are correct to be a bit
concerned. You can always return to the original by doing a factory
reset.

Unfortunately, Logitech hasn't prioritized applying the necessary patch
to the original firmware yet, so this means that users who want to get
rid of the popup need to patch it themselves.

As mentioned, there is an option to re-apply patches after a firmware
upgrade i "Patch Installer" menu.
