In my experience the buffering of the station runs out pretty quickly.
So if you put it in standby for 5-10 seconds while testing in a shop
you may get the "pause" effect, but I'd be surprised if it did that if
you had it in standby for several minutes or hours, which I would think
is a more typical use-case.

Or instead of pausing the station you can stop it (press and hold the
pause button) before hitting the power button. I'm pretty sure it will
stop buffering then and start back with live when you turn it on again.
