yep, it's confusing. Some apps need to be on the mysb.com site (as these make "handshakes" with the provider like Pandora or SirusXM). But essentially, mysqueezebox.com is LMS "in the cloud". Players can be connected to only one at a time. So if you are connected to local LMS, it is correct that your players would show up as "not connected" on mysqueezebox.com. And your LMS does hold your mysqueezebox.com credentials (so that LMS can interact with your apps on mysb.com without you actually being connected to mysb.com).
