Hi all, Rather than contacting everyone on the Oceania Mentor list I thought I'd post here so as not to spam everyone (Gabe pointed me this way :) )
I'm just starting out with Ruby/Rails, and have done the usual Hartl/Rails for Zombies/Agile Web Dev PragProg book path and have started a little project to put it all into practice. My issue is the progress I'm making is very slow and frustrating due to the feedback loop of trying to figure out my issues using Stack Overflow/random internet searching. Basically I'd like to be able to ask someone 'why', and there aren't any local experts/hackers that I know of where I live (Dubbo - far west NSW). You would be mentoring a beginner who is still trying to nut down the basics (ie, at the moment I've come to grief with associations and foreign keys, as well as passing parameters). I know what I am trying to create, have mockups etc, I just need help getting over hurdles. Ideally I'm after a half hour once or twice a week (happy for it to be paid) for someone to help me work through issues to set me on the right course so I can go away and work on the issue. Given the distance, I'm more than happy for it to be remote; ie TeamViewer and a voip/phone call. In terms of my 'other' skills, I'm an ex-Windows sysadmin crossed with a degree qualified accountant, and more than happy to reciprocate. My current role is around accounting systems (eg Xero, Saasu, MYOB (both cloud/desktop), Quickbooks etc) in case that helps. If this sounds like it would float someone's boat, please let me know :) Cheers, Liam -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Ruby or Rails Oceania" group.
