Hi folks, Here's the follow-up email I promised to send out after RORO Sydney last night, about the Improv night I proposed to run very shortly. Thanks to everyone who put up their hands and showed interest in attending. Peter James from Ninefold jumped in and offered space at their swanky office as well as beer and pizza for the night, so we have a venue, food and refreshments as well as a fun and rewarding night.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO NOW. Pick a night in October! To those who expressed interest, reply to this email WITH DATES THAT SUIT YOU IN OCTOBER. Get in early so I can set a date that suits you. If you weren't at RORO last night, you can still get in on this. While places will be limited, we haven't reached the limit yet. SO WHAT IS IMPROV? Improvs are games and exercises essentially designed to help actors expand their range of behaviours. You may have seen TV shows like "Whose Line is it Anyway?" or "Thank God You're Here" which essentially involved (more advanced) improvs. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PLAY? FIrst ... for the sheer fun of it. Second ... for the sheer fun of it. Improvs are great for anyone involved in public speaking, presentation, training and, well ... leadership. You'll develop skills (almost by accident) to respond to surprise situations, and develop congruence, authenticity, confidence and flexibility. These are a great assets to have if you've ever thought about presenting to RORO or other meet-ups, or if you're already a seasoned presenter and you'd like to expand your skill set. My goal is to have more of my colleagues ready to share what they know about our field, confidently and in ways that are true to themselves. Oh, did I mention playing improvs in fun?
