Reading the XMP metadata in Digikam I notice that my png 16 bit files 
saved with sRGB shows "Color Space sRGB", same as my viewing default
saved with AdobeRGB or ProPhotoRGB shows "Color Space Uncalibrated".

RS output sRGB vs Digikam SaveAs sRGB should not change the way that the
file is generically viewed nor how the file is printed for instance by
Kodak.

You may well be right regarding 8 bit vs 16 bit printing output but I
normally keep everything in 16 bit format for post processing purposes.
