Isn't it embedded as XMP? The EXIF data that exiv2 is able to convert to
XMP data should be copied if libexiv2 is more recent than v0.17, which it
should be pretty much anywhere. As Hubert correctly states there is no way
to produce valid PNG's and embed EXIF data directly.  But it is a while
since I looked at it.
