I am running R:Base on a MacBook Air using MacOS high Sierra with the help of Parallels (about $100) and an installation of Windows 7 Pro. ($300). Parallels is available for Liniux as well. Another developer put me on to Parallels. Ir runs Windows in a Windows all screen session (or a window) without rebooting back and forth. On the Mac, a 3 finger swipe takes me to the full screen Windows and back. Data transfers between the two OS with no problems.
