Here's a few questions for the forum:

In RC5 and 6 of the Glorious RB 7.0, I cannot get the query tool to work. I
can start to build a command, but the wizard refuses to allow me to complete
the WHERE clause. Is there a "work around" for this? Or am I doing something
(stupidly) wrong?

Also, the Table Builder (formerly known as RBDefine) allows me to define
tables OK, but will not allow me to modify the length upward on text fields.
Again, what am I doing wrong?

Finally, the Import/Export tool (Gateway) seems not to like Text files (tab
or comma delimited) or Excel spreadsheets. What am I overlooking?

Lest folks think I am a total rookie at this, I started with RBase 4000, and
have several databases running with more than 10,000 client entries and 200K
transactions. Based on the previous strength of Rbase, I convinced my
company to "take the plunge", purchase Rbase 6.5+++ for Windows (5 seat) as
an interim tool, and wait for the free upgrade to Rbase 7. This was back in
May 2003, when we were told "golden" date was "real soon now". Turns out,
numerous bugs in gateway prevents ths use of the Windows version -- I
reverted my projects back to the DOS version of RBase 6.5++, which I
purchased as a "backup". Thankfully, it has enabled me to show some "forward
progress" to my mgmt for the past several months.

Now, I've missed another deadline, and the tools I need the most in RB 7
have not moved any closer to being functional, and my bug reports have "no
status" assigned to them. (The tools also do not resemble those shown in the
on-line demo pages). We've already cancelled the long standing order for the
Pocket RBase -- my deadline on that project was 60 days ago. My mgmt is now
threatening to make me personally "eat" the entire cost of the software,
since it is now "not returnable".

I am hoping that I have been doing something really stupid in trying to get
these tools working. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I will
quietly return to my "hole in the ground" and try to "dig out" from my lost
time.

Alastair,

I wish I could give you the exact date for the release
version, but we do not want to do anything prematurely
because we have worked so hard to get to this point.

Over 200 dedicated beta testers (developers/users)
along with corporate/government/educational sites have
been pounding the Next Generation R:BASE 7.0 for Windows
for more than 15 months.

A few developers have even deployed their RBG7 Applications
since the Release Candidate 1 (August 5, 2003) and all
corporate/government/educational beta sites have gone LIVE
since the Release Candidate 5 (August 29, 2003).

My suggestion to you at this point is to sleep with one
eye open so you don't miss anything!

Very Best R:egards,

Razzak.
