evening (well over here or down here anyway)
Whilst I do not normally post here I will ask if you are having a problem or have found something that needs to be bought to the attention of the RB7 BETA TEAM why hasn't it been posted on the RB7 list ? Lots of people there to help and if there is an issue it will be fixed prior to any release.
OH yes I do remember Microrim. I use to run it here in Australia

I emphasized with Jim Zix and agreed with Razzak. Version 7 is quite impressive and a lot of work has gone into it, but I have been working with Rbase since version 1.0 (remember Microrim) and I have also been struggling with the some of the same problems Jim points out in the latest 7.0 release, especially around Gateway, which requires me to really have to pull out some work-arounds that could easily frustrate most. For instance, why doesn't the WIZARD feature specifying field size work for fixed or delimited field formats? I have resorted to using UEDIT on these output files to shape them properly. And, if the formats to go to SPSS or EXCEL do not work, how can I easily transport blocks of data for external analyses? Premature resease with bugs like these could be a problem.

Is there a date yet for the public release of the "release version", Razzak?
Alastair,
I wish I could give you the exact date for the release version, but we do not want to do anything prematurely because we have worked so hard to get to this point.
Over 200 dedicated beta testers (developers/users) along with corporate/government/educational sites have been pounding the Next Generation R:BASE 7.0 for Windows for more than 15 months.
A few developers have even deployed their RBG7 Applications since the Release Candidate 1 (August 5, 2003) and all corporate/government/educational beta sites have gone LIVE since the Release Candidate 5 (August 29, 2003).
A few Vertical Market Applications have also been designed in preparation for the official release.
The best I can say right now is very very soon. In fact, we are basically waiting for the green light from a few of our "Premier Beta Testers/Developers" who have requested last minute features.
My suggestion to you at this point is to sleep with one eye open so you don't miss anything!
Very Best R:egards,
Razzak.
