Jim,

Let me see if I can answer your questions accordingly.

In RC5 and 6 of the Glorious RB 7.0, I cannot get the query tool to work. I
can start to build a command, but the wizard refuses to allow me to complete
the WHERE clause. Is there a "work around" for this? Or am I doing something
(stupidly) wrong?

If you are using the "Query Wizard", simply drag and drop the common columns
to link (similar to WHERE T1.CustID = T2.CustID)

If you using the "Query Designer" to Create/Modify Queries (VIEWS), make sure
to properly select:

Table Name, Highlight Column(s) and the click on [Add Column] button.

Use appropriate option from "Function Template" or "Operators and Keywords"
and then make sure to "Test Clause...". If all seems to be OK, then click
on [OK] button.

Tips:

01. While in WHERE Builder, click on [Help] button (Lower Right Corner]
    for more details.

02. Use [Shift+F1] key for step-by-step instructions on new "Query Designer".

Make sure to read everything including the topics on:

    Menu Bar
    Toolbar
    Creating a New Query
    Saving Your Query
    Viewing the SQL Statement

Yes, Windows environment is quite different than what you are used to in
the DOS version.

Also, the Table Builder (formerly known as RBDefine) allows me to define
tables OK, but will not allow me to modify the length upward on text fields.
Again, what am I doing wrong?

While in "Data Designer" working on Adding/Inserting/Deleting Column(s),
if you need to modify the length upward on text fields, either "Double-Click"
or use [Enter] key to allow edit and then type the new length and make sure
to press [Enter] key to save new length.

Finally, the Import/Export tool (Gateway) seems not to like Text files (tab
or comma delimited) or Excel spreadsheets. What am I overlooking?

Are you using Import/Export Wizard or Command Line?

If you are using the latest Release Candidate 6 along with latest Help
Files, go through every section and every option, especially Text Files
as in your case.

If you having difficulty understanding the new interface, etc., send
your sample file to RBG7 Beta Staff at: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Lest folks think I am a total rookie at this, I started with RBase 4000, and
have several databases running with more than 10,000 client entries and 200K
transactions. Based on the previous strength of Rbase, I convinced my
company to "take the plunge", purchase Rbase 6.5+++ for Windows (5 seat) as
an interim tool, and wait for the free upgrade to Rbase 7. This was back in
May 2003, when we were told "golden" date was "real soon now". Turns out,
numerous bugs in gateway prevents ths use of the Windows version -- I
reverted my projects back to the DOS version of RBase 6.5++, which I
purchased as a "backup". Thankfully, it has enabled me to show some "forward
progress" to my mgmt for the past several months.

Jim, it is a whole new ball game, new user interface as well as learning curve
especially when switching from DOS version.

... my bug reports have "no status" assigned to them.

That typically means that either the development team has not looked into
your newly submitted bug(s) or has not been able to replicate it. Once
they verify everything a new status is assigned and an e-mail is sent to
notify about the current status.

I am hoping that I have been doing something really stupid in trying to get
these tools working. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I will
quietly return to my "hole in the ground" and try to "dig out" from my lost
time.

You are NOT doing anything really stupid, it is simply a matter of
understanding and getting used to new tools and user interface.

If you have any specific question or need help, feel free to post on
the RBG7 Beta List where you can get more help from other RBG7 beta testers
as well as RBG7 Beta Staff.

Hope that helps!
