John, everyone,

In my case, the “problem” is definitely not a database one.

I always close the database before exiting;

from my app I use an External form;
from the R:> prompt if I type “Exit”;
if I click on the drop-down main menu and choose Exit;
if I click on the Windows X to exit – all with or without any (other) screens
displayed:

In all these cases I get the “R:Base eXteme 9.0 (32) has stopped working” error
message about 95% of the time.
If that gives me the chance to send a report to Microsoft I do.

The other occurrence of the same “problem” is when the system’s power screen
saver kicks in when R:Base is open. In this case the Windows error message
appears wherever I am in R:Base. So I have the choice of closing R:Base or
seeing if I need it again before the power saver gets it. This one seems to be
100% of the times it happens.

Believe me, if I could have sent RDCC anything useful I would have done so long
ago.

Thanks for taking this on board.
Regards,
Alastair.

  Using 9.1 with latest updates on both Win 7 and XP machines with 2 gig memory
each. I have one form that drops the user out of the database and I cannot
figure out why. The form collects information about CONTACTS (name, address,
phone, and 18 additional fields).

  1. When I call CONTACTS straight from a menu list it works correctly every
time.
  2. Another form tracks prescribed MEDICATIONS and uses a drop down to select
the prescribing physician. If the name is new, the user hits a green '+' which
fires an EEP to load the CONTACTS form to collect the new physician's info.

  I use this basic system successfully in many locations. However in Example #2
I can go to any field within the called CONTACT to add info but as soon as I
click on any other CONTACT field, the database closes. In XP the database just
shuts down. In Win 7 this message comes up: "R:Base 9.1 has stopped working. A
problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the
program and notify you if a solution is available".

  The MEDICATION form has 33 items that do something and on it's own it always
works. I have stripped EEPs out of CONTACTS to eliminate conflicts, rebuilt the
forms, Echo and Trace do not show anything.

  What is a likely cause of the database just stopping like this? All I can
think of is there is some kind of conflict, but nothing pops up that I can see.

  I guess now is the time to add my experiences with v9.0 on W7-64:

  R:Base rarely closes properly – from my app, from the R:>, from anywhere.
  R:Base “hangs” if my screen power-saver kicks in – I see it when I go
back in, obviously.

  I click on the message to send details to Microsoft but its been like this
since I got this computer (mid July last year). I did ask a question here but
nobody had any offering that helped, unfortunately.

  I have all the MS updates and build 9.0.5.10104 of R:Base.
  I can’t report this because I cannot send my PC to RBTI so that they can
see what happens.

Dear Tom, Alastair, Karen, et al:

We can assure all that the R:BASE Dream Team will not waste any time resolving
reported issues.

We always recommend that users first attempt to replicate an issue within a
different database, or one of the RRBYW## sample databases.

If you can replicate the problem, then please prepare the sample with detailed
instructions and send it to the RBG9 RDCC email address, [email protected], or
submit the issue within the RBG9 RDCC Client, that is embedding into the R:BASE
eXtreme product. From the main Menu Bar, choose "Help" > "RBG9 R:DCC Client".

Remember, the RBG9 RDCC Client interface give all users direct access to the
R:BASE development team to discuss enhancements and bug-related issues.

It is worth noting that in "all" R:BASE Technologies documentation, a chapter
titled "Feedback" is provided, that states the same details provided above.

As anyone who has reported an issue through the RDCC can tell you, it is quite
simple, and fully interactive.

Thank you and best regards,
