Always a good idea to check the manufactures web page to see if there are newer 
drivers.
If not, try uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling.

It is connected by usb, which is the way I connect the 88IV

Tom...Do the printers perform a self-test.  Hold down the paper feed
button at power up.  It should print out a test strip showing the
printer settings.  How are you trying to connect to the computer? USB,
CAT 5, Serial?  Let me know and I will consult a service manual and
suggest the correct settings.  The settings are controlled by 2 switch
blocks on the underside of the printer located below the small metal
access plate.
