Tom, I had a similar problem with a networked printer which was solved by un-checking the bi-directional printing option in printer properties on the machine involved. Whether this can happen on a USB connected printer, I don't know, but maybe its worth a try. I found the solution by Googling the printer Model and something like "won't stop printing".
