>So if any of you grow your on watermelons we share a common ground but I >still have the "BEST WATERMELLONS". You sure might have the best! But I got some fine ones down here as well. Then again, as a rancher/farmer, I know the difference between having pride in what I do (and doing the best I can) versus thinking mine are the "best in the world" regardless. Personally, I think we have some mighty fine melons right now. But the best? They just might be around these parts, but I don't presume to think they are the best in the world. Haven't tasted every melon in the world so as to be able to form that opinion! And I haven't tasted yours, nor have you tasted mine. So who knows? And does it really matter? I kinda figure the point is to get those melons to market and share the bounty with those city-folk that can't grow their own melons. Let them decide what they prefer. I know I did the best job I possibly could getting them good melons and I hope they enjoy them on a hot day! In that, I take great pride, but I don't need everyone hootin' and hollerin' about how my melons are "the best". Nice to hear, but you won't hear me shouting it myself. Besides ... might be a bad crop next year, ya know? I let others tell me what they think abut the work I do, rather than toot my own horn all the time or proclaim I am the best. 'Tis better to be humble and enjoy the earned praises of others than to shout all the time "my melons are the best" - goes back to that advertising thing. We don't tend to pay a lot of attention to self-proclaimed "best" anything around here ... we use word of mouth and the opinions of others to get the message across about what is good and what isn't .. what works and what fails. And then we share the knowledge with everyone about how to make good melons. But then .. we are all ranchers and farmers. We aren't city-folk. Another Southern point of view. From a third generation Florida rancher/farmer. Kenny Bob Brown a/k/a KR Brown PosiTrak, Inc. <chewing on a hay stalk...> P.S. I left the J.D., Esq. and Pres. off the name .. sure doesn't seem to change who I am or what I do. More of that "results speak for themselves" thing we do down here. <wink> You reading this, Scott S. ?? How are ya, buddy?
