I also observed a slowdown with multiple users on a WIN2000 server. The
second user doesn't have to be doing anything. The second user causes it to
go into some sort of "MULTI" mode whereas the user who gets in first doesn't
seem to put it in this "multi" mode. If the second user exits, it still
keeps it in the multi mode. All users have to exit before it resets.
The slowdown I observed was approx 2.5 times slower. I wrote a small CMD
file that SET TIME FOR 'hh:mm:ss.ss', set a var to the current time, ran the
procedure, set another var to the ending time & computed the execution time
(to a hundredth of a second) by finding the time difference.
You can then test various procedures even if thay only take a second or 2 to
execute.
I don't remember this slowdown happening with our previous server (running
Novell 3.2), but the old Novell server has been replaced so I can't test it
now. Yours seems to be approx 7 times slower, and I thought mine was really
slow.
I haven't got very far with this problem nor have I received much help from
anyone. The network people only say it is an RBase problem, but we all know
it is a WIN2000 server problem.

We have RBdos running at a client, with 5 to 12 simultaneous users. We have
the app on a W95 box (hrdware equivalent to OS), and we have a W2000 server
which is up to date, lots of RAM etc. and runs SQL server 7 just fine. All
tests done over the network, and included restarting workstations to see if
it made any difference. It did not. The workstation had no significant
impact on the times, whether running W98 or W2K.
On W95 live db, users active, an update took 2 min 40 sec. This was
repeated throughout the testing with times varying from 2:30 to 2:50.
On W2000 server, one user connected, 59 sec.
Connect second user (who was not doing anything), 6 min 58 sec.
Disconnect second user, no significant change.
Disconnect both users, connect one, 1 min 3 sec. Same as first time. Did
not restart, just shut down rtime session and restarted rtime session.
Connect third user, 7 min 15 sec. Not significantly different from first
test of two
Try rbwin instead of rbdos, 7 min 24 sec. Not a significant difference.
Timing was done on several workstations, running W95, W98 SE or Win2000.
The station running the app made no signiifcant difference to the times
It is driving us nuts. The client is still running rbase on the W95 server,
for obvious reasons.
