Thanks to all for your help on this (and all of my 'learning-to-crawl'
questions).  The value of the advice and patience of folks on this list is
unequaled.  Hopefully, when we get to R:Linux, I'll be able to pay it
forward.

I got it to work and look good at the same time. I have no doubt my code is
not nearly as efficient as it could be, but that will change with time and
practice.
