Thats unfortunate,

I remember long time ago working with Wayne on this double dot or indirect
addressing. so a feature has not been considered a bug ;-0
One of the big pluses of R:Base used to be this dynamic programming feature.

Clever one Ben.  Unfortunately:

A) The expression evaluator has been tightened up to
cause this to fail.

B) My real usage involves a column name in an UPDATE
expression, and so the extra '.' would not have the
desired effect.
