Terminal services caches bitmaps and does compression. Terminal services is
limited to 256 colors though where PCA you can specify the number of colors.

I cannot confirm this, but something to think about.  If I'm not mistaken,
PCA sends the entire every time it refreshes instead of just the changes.
If that is the case, it would explain why it's less than speedy.  (The
remote control package I use is much more smooth than PCA, when I need to
use it.)
