Hi Tom I've bashed my head against a brick wall many times trying to get data in and out of MS products. MS will not conform to the un-written standard of adding an extra delimiter when the delimiter appears in a text field. This is the way R:Base does it and, for as long as I can remember the way mainframe computers did it back in the days of punched cards and paper tape! Never a problem till MS arrived on the scene.
I now use executables to load data into MS products using a TAB as the separator as this appears to work fine. Also not related to you problem SQLSERVER will not accept datetime columns like 25-6-2002 0:00:00 or 25-6-2002 1:01:00 as it requires a 2 digit hour and will only accept a null value for zero time via the BCP.EXE programme. When I transfer data into R:Base a try to use a DBF format.
