I have had 2 offices with tape backups.  One didn't
know the tape backup wasn't working since it ran
at night.  They lost 6 months of data because that
was the last time the backup work properly.

Another office had their to run at lunch.  Sometimes
they would still be in RBase when the backup ran!
Not good.

Another office had Scandisk and Defrag to run at lunch
and they didn't know to shut exit RBase before it ran.

At least none of my users have broke the cup holder on
their computer yet <G>

I don't understand why backups shouldn't be diligent!!
It's not a major thing to do.
Tape backup drives are inexpensive and can back up the entire server including all databases, word documents, etc.
AND it's automatic!!!

I insist all my clients have at least 7 tapes --  One for each day of week  M-F,  1 for end of month,  1 in case a tape goes bad.

I show them how to check to make sure that they did get a backup and have them check it each morning.  I also see them or call them every so often and ask if they checked their back up.

I will admit that sometimes they forget to change the tape but they should do that right after they check the back up.

In addition to the tape backup, I also schedule an automatic backup of just the R:Base databases onto one of the workstations hard drive.  This way I can play with it without interrupting their work.

So be diligent, insist they do this, and keep tabs on them!!!
