Here's what I think happened...

Buddy's email was tagged with a public key.  It looks like Buddy replied to
his own message and it was encrypted using the PKI, because he has his own
public key.

In other words, "Professor Buddy did it in the email with the X.509 cert."
Anyone play Clue?

It opened for me in Outlook with no problems, although it would not display
in preview mode.  The email had to be opened first.
