I seem to remember that the minimum # of characters for a command was changed some years back from 3 to 4 although, as you say Bill, some still work with only three.
Personally, more less since that time, I have taken to using the full word rather than any abbreviation with only a couple of exceptions (that I can think of): I use SET VAR and ERR MES. The reason? when I go back to code after some years I find it much easier to understand what I was thinking without having to mentally convert the abbreviations. If this is easier for me then it is almost certainly easier for anybody else to understand.
