Bernie,

I did have some contact with Progress but I left it for others to respond who, I guessed, would know more that I did.

FWIW, we used to run progress on a Unix box and access it via a Novell network - don't ask me how exactly, it was, thankfully, never my baby!

The person that supervised it was able to extract data to, I think, text files without too much problem but I don't remember her being able to do things like views. I'm pretty sure that we never even tried to read the data with R:Base although that would have been very useful.

If I remember correctly, there was/is a Windows version but whether that was only a front end for the DB on Unix I'm not sure but that's how we used it - I think.

Not much help, I'm afraid, but if you're still stuck I might be able to find out more for you but it's a year since I had any contact with my old colleagues.

Regards,
Alastair.

Subject: Progress database

I asked a few weeks ago and got no response.  So I thought I would try once more.

Does anyone know anything about the Progress database.  I think it is based on Unix.  Any problem in converting to R:base or reading their data in R:Base?
