Tom -

You have to issue the NET USE statement to be able to recognize LPT1 on
Win2k and XP - here is the blurb from my own personal cheat-sheet for one
client:

1.. Click on the Start menu.
2.. Select Run and click on it.
3.. In the text box labeled Open type "cmd.exe".
4.. Once the command prompt window appears, type "c:".
5.. Then type "cd \" which should send you to the root directory.
  6.. Type the following line:
Net Use lpt1 \\<compname>\<networkdevice>

                        i.e. net use lpt1 \\sms_3\NEC

                        i.e. net use lpt1 \\ksopprt01\ksopprt29p

NET USE LPT1 \\WORKSTATION1\HPDeskJet970

This will set the printer to lpt1 and allow you to print from a
dos program. If you

would like to double check to see that the command was
successful just type

Net Use at the next dos prompt and verify the path following
lpt1.
