Well after all my postings trying to find a remedy for why printing 2000 reports to a slow old laserjet worked perfectly but printing to a fast Okidata laserjet never could make it through, we have a solution.
Talking it through with their hardware guy, we remembered that the slow laserjet was directly attached to a workstation. The new laserjet was connected to the network with an HP JetDirect card. Before buying the Okidata, another HP laser was on this card and worked perfectly but slowly. We switched things around so the Okidata is directly attached to a workstation, and now it works perfectly! Seems it didn't like the JetDirect card!
