CHAR(255) is a "hard space" in the DOS ASCII extended character set. CHAR(160) is the Windows ANSI character set version used by RBWin. CHAR(255) in Windows is the "y" with two dots (umlaut) over it. CHAR(160) in DOS is "a" with an acute accent "".
To type a hard space in Windows, hold down the [Alt] key while pressing 0160 or 255 on the number pad. When typing the [Alt] key combinations, preface the "CHAR" number with zero for the Windows ANSI character set, or without the zero to get the equivalent DOS ASCII character. One more example to clarify: e with an acute accent () is CHAR(233) in Windows, CHAR(130) in DOS. Type Alt-0233 or Alt-130. To see the character sets, use the Windows "Character Map" function. In XP and 98 it's under Programs/Accessories/System Tools. All of the standard fonts (like Arial, Times New Roman etc.) use the ANSI character set. The only font that uses the DOS character set is "Terminal". Use "Terminal" to view DOS data that has characters above CHAR(127). This all might be different in Europe.
