Does anyone consider this a problem, enough that they would continue to use external files, or do they document forms in a searchable fashion?
Karen,
Other than securing your code inside the form and not being worried about missing/deleted external EEPs, the biggest advantage of using the Embedded Custom EEP is the "portability" of your cool forms and/or applications.
When you transfer/recycle the form from one application to another or share your nifty forms with your colleagues, you will never have to worry about making sure that you have included all related EEPs or not.
Using R:BASE 7.1 for Windows, you can almost distribute your application without external code except any EEPs used at Table level, such as, On Row Entry, On Row Exit, After Saving Row or After Leaving Section (Ex: RRBYW9).
R:BASE 7.5 and V-8 Turbo takes care of that feature as all Table Level EEPs also include the option for embedded Custom EEPs. (Examples: RRBYW10 and RRBYW11)
In reference to Search/Replace option to update any string in embedded Custom EEP, it would be really nice to have that feature as an option while in Form Designer or PLUGIN to just handle that.
Let's submit that as an enhancement request at RBG7 R:DCC. I'm sure that R:Dream Team will consider that as a nice feature in 7.5 and V-8 Turbo. Would you like me to have the pleasure of submitting that request?
Very Best R:egards,
Razzak.
