A little pre-holiday cheer from Riv yesterday - my 60cm/700c Bombadil is on the sleigh and heading over the water and through the woods. I need some thoughts on tire choices, and thought this group would have an opinion or two. First of all, I should mention that I had Rich build up a set of wheels using a pair of NOS MA40s I had squirreled away - 40 holes to boot! I've ridden 36 hole MA40s that I got used many years ago and have never had issues with durability, so 40s should be even more Bombadilish. (Bombalicious?) I matched them with a set of Phil-Riv hubs that Rich just happened to procure with the same number of holes. The already look awesome!
I don't need to use anything too mountainy as my plans are more along the lines of a super-stout Ahh-rounder type ride, so let me know what you think might fit the bill - and the rims. Marathon XR 42s? I'll post plenty of photos as soon as the steel shows up. FYI - it's Black. I've been squirreling away parts 'n stuff for a while now. (Can you say Zephyr?) Even a surprise part or two that I think you'll like. But the rubber can't meet the road until - well, you know. Thanks for the advice, and have a great Holiday season.
