Those are the people who would be mystified by the "third pedal" on the floor of the car! I remember those pump hoses - lost one using the wrong end of the pump to swat a dog. Oh, and those frames needed 2 pump pegs.

As I recall the hoses those things were blest with had a distressing tendency to crack and leak, making them almost useless, in reality - at least for this normally careless youth! What would those guys do with a car that you could (or had to) crank by hand?
