If a cop fines a cyclist for not stopping at a stop sign, is it really the cop's fault? Did he make you not stop? Now I am not saying that there aren't cops out there targeting cyclists-- but it is your own fault if you give them a reason to ticket you. Same thing for a cop who sits at a spot where the speed limit is low and the speeds are high. It is there job to enforce the law. As cyclists, we ask to be given the same respect as any other vehicle out on the road, but we complain about paying the same consequences? Seems a little strange to me. I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to breaking traffic laws on my bike, but I am willing to accept the consequences if I get caught.
I know there are cops who target certain people (young, old, male, female, cyclists, etc) and that is not fair and is not ok. At the end of the day, it is still your own fault-- bad cop or not. Follow the law and you should have no problem.
