Even were that the case- and I doubt it as Mavic has made finger- 
pointing and ducking responsibility and blaming everyone else into a  
fine art over the years- there is still no excuse for every spoke in  
a wheel breaking catastrophically.

IMHO it is irresponsible and perhaps criminally negligent for Mavic  
to leave this product on the market.  They will eventually pay in  
court and pay very heavily for this product if they persist.

Events like this make one really appreciate Grant's conservative  
design philosophy and his tendency to build in some margin into his  
designs.  Sure, Rivs could be a bit lighter, a bit racier, etc. but  
then the weight-versus-durability issue starts to rear its head.  I  
think Grant probably likes to sleep well at night and not be awake  
worrying if some kind of marginal remove-every-possible-gram  
Rivendell design is going to dump someone to the pavement.  'Cuz  
there don't seem to be any Rivendell designs like that!
