I use all 9 gears in my cassette with the middle ring up front. If I had
the option to use them all in the big ring, I might, but due to
cross-chaining I am effectively prevented from doing so if I want my chain
to last a reasonable amount of time.

Having the front gear ranges in the rear hub solves the problem of cross
chaining and makes all gear combinations effectively usable.

That being said, I have no interest in actually implementing the current
solution that SRAM offers due to the wonky controls involved. If they made
it compatible with bar ends, or something reasonably mounted on drop bars,
then I might have some interest. The current solution is tailored to flat
bars, besides the fact it's wonky. It's SRAM proprietary and looks fragile.
