In the article about his new Herse Rando bike, Jan Heine explained his decision to go with a 5 cog freewheel is based on the fact after years of riding he used those five gears most of the time. I suspect that many of us never make use of all 11, 9, or even 7 gears for most of our riding. Certainly worth looking into.
