Y'know, I think Grant and Jan really intend the same thing; they say it in
very different ways. I think Jan's intention of accepting all cycling and
all cyclists is, really, intended by Grant in this sense, that he wants
(and says in a very strong way) cycling to include kinds and kit other than
the racing kind that is so pushed by marketers and therefore media. In
other words, Grant is, I think, not so much saying "don't be like a racer"
as "there are other kinds of cycling, more normal, that are better suited
to more people -- you don't have to ride carbon fiber and wear lycra to
enjoy cycling."

Which amounts largely to the same thing. Grant just has a more emphatic and
indeed confrontational way of communicating.
