Given all those conditions, taking the lane was the correct and safest 
strategy.  If the truck driver had any problem, hopefully he'll get over 
it.  In many states, school zone speed limits are enforced seriously, so he 
really shouldn't have been going much faster than a bicycle.  FWIW, I try 
to avoid schools at let-out time since there's too much going on, kids 
darting out, cars pulling out, doors flying open, weird u-turns, etc.
