I had a similar and refreshing experience: beater car passes me, two kids in it (damn 30-somethings, mutter snarl mutter grumble mutter), slows, I immediately go into defensive/agressive mode -- "You have a problem?". Driving kid says, "No! Just thought you have a neat bike! Have a nice day!"
I immediately fell all over myself, metaphorically speaking, to apologize and extend my compliments.
