I’ve been riding long distances for about 30 years, and I’ve never been into the “big miles” that some riders do. Im my experience, knowing how to do a long ride is just as important as having strength in your legs. I’ve seen many strong, young riders who DNF out of double centuries because they go out too hard and burn out.
I average about 125-150 miles a week year-‘round, but that of course goes up during the riding season. The brevets, which increase in length through the Spring, serve as their own training rides. I overheard another rider on the recent 400K talk about doing 400-500 miles per week of training to get ready for a double century. To me, that’s overkill. I don’t have the time nor the need to put in that many miles. If I were trying to win the Tour de France or get a Charly Miller time on PBP, perhaps. But not with my goal of feeling good, having fun, and finishing inside the cutoff time. --Eric N campyonly...@me.com www.CampyOnly.com Campyonlyguy.blogspot.com @Campyonlyguy > On Apr 7, 2015, at 10:48 PM, lungimsam <john11.2...@gmail.com> wrote: > > You guys amaze me. > I can't get my head around these distances. > > How many miles do you ride in an average week to be in shape for these kind > of rides? > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "RBW Owners Bunch" group. > To unsubscribe from this group and stop receiving emails from it, send an > email to rbw-owners-bunch+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > To post to this group, send email to rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com. > Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/rbw-owners-bunch. > For more options, visit https://groups.google.com/d/optout. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
